Dr Renée Gunter has been in full-time private practice since 2010.
She completed her undergraduate medical training at the University of Cape Town medical school and then went on to specialize in psychiatry at the University of Stellenbosch.

She gained clinical experience working at Tygerberg, Stikland and Lentegeur psychiatric units.

Dr Renée Gunter practices as a general psychiatrist and she has experience in treating a broad range of conditions across all age groups.

Exclusion of other medical conditions which may explain your symptoms
Exploration of your life circumstances and stressors
Assessment of your lifestyle choices
Exploration of your expectations of treatment
An in-depth discussion of your diagnosis and treatment options.

Treatment is then individualized to suit your specific needs which may include:

Starting medication
Referral to and collaboration with other health professionals (Physician, Clinical Psychologist, Occupational Therapist, Social Worker)
Admission to hospital can be arranged in specific cases.

You will play a central role in the decision making process around your treatment
Dr Gunter will merely give you all the options available and then allow you to decide what you feel is best for you

Dr Gunter​ is contracted to all medical aids and she bills according to scheme rates. She will claim directly from the medical aid on your behalf therefore cash up front payments are not required.

Certain Psychiatric conditions, such as Bipolar disorder, are classified as PMB (prescribed minimum benefit) conditions. This means that even if you don’t have special psychiatric benefits or you only have a hospital plan, we can still apply for your out patient appointments to be covered.
